Pacific Grant for Community-Led Heritage Management
OVERVIEW
International Archaeological Research Institute, Inc., (IARII) provides grant opportunities for
community-led heritage management projects in the communities it serves — Hawai‘i, Guam,
the Commonwealth of the Northern Mariana Islands, the Republic of Palau, the Federated
States of Micronesia, and the Solomon Islands. Up to $2,500 will be awarded to one or more
successful applicants for each grant cycle.
PURPOSE
The purpose of this grant is to provide funding for management or restoration of traditional
structures and landscapes, workshops/trainings, documentation of oral histories, and associated
community-led projects.

Awardee: Guam Preservation Trust ($2,500)
Project: Guam’s 2nd Archaeology Technician Training Seminar
Description: Guam Preservation Trust conducted a 9-day archaeological technician training
seminar tailored to individuals interested in working in the Cultural Resource Management
(CRM) field in Guam. The seminar included classroom lectures, reading discussions, laboratory
and field exercises, and student presentations. The goal of this seminar was to provide
community members with skills that contribute to gainful employment with CRM firms and to
encourage interest in archaeology and preserving the past. The grant provided funds for course
instructors and supplies.
