Christian E. Peterson is Professor and former Chair of the Department of Anthropology at the University of Hawai‘i at Mānoa. He pursues quantitatively rigorous comparative analysis aimed at understanding variation in the social dynamics and developmental trajectories of early complex societies worldwide. He has carried out archaeological field research with a focus on regional settlement demography, communities, and households in northeastern Asia and southern Africa. Dr. Peterson has published widely on these and other topics in academic journals and edited volumes, and as individual monographs. His most recent book (co-authored with Robert D. Drennan and C. Adam Berrey) is The Emergence of Social Complexity: A Global Archaeological Comparison (forthcoming with Cambridge University Press).
